Ceasing of South African Tax Residency

A Back-to-Basics Approach

Are you aware of the correct options available to your expatriate clients? It is crucial to understand that tax residency in South Africa is not based on fiscal convenience or your client’s individual perception of their tax residency status. Instead, it is determined by their specific facts and circumstances, which form the basis for notifying SARS that their status has changed.

SARS will verify this change through relevant supporting documents before formalizing it by issuing your client a Notice of Non-Resident Tax Status confirmation letter. This letter stipulates that SARS must be notified of any subsequent change to your client’s tax residency status or registered particulars.

This webinar aims to provide a foundational understanding of the cessation of South African tax residency. It will guide attendees through the essential steps and requirements for formally notifying the South African Revenue Service (SARS) of a change in their client’s tax residency status.
